Launching a business can be tough. We know that you’ve got a lot to think about, and social media is only one of those elements. Don’t worry, because we’re here to help. Here is a list of 8 great tips to launch your business on social media in 2020 in no time!

1. What are your social media objectives?

We know that creating your social media channels can be quite exciting and you probably want to jump right on in, but it’s important to take a step back for a moment and consider your social media objectives.

Without clear social media objectives in place, you might find yourself posting things that aren’t relevant to your business, and your customers.

Are your social media channels going to act as a sales or lead generator, or are you mainly wanting to reach new audiences, or create a community feel with your existing customers? Is it a mix of all of the above, or something else altogether? By figuring out your objectives at the start, you’ll have a clearer idea of what to post and how to use your channels for the betterment of your business.

2. Claim your social media handles, ASAP

In all honesty, this dot point probably comes first. As a business, there’s nothing more annoying than not being able to have your business name as your social media handle. Even if you’re not considering using social media for your business at all, just so no one else can have it. Also try to think beyond Facebook and Instagram. Will your business need a Pinterest, Twitter, TikTok or LinkedIn in the future? It can be hard to tell, but if you have already set up your handles and decide that you need them later, you’ve already got the username without any worries!

3. Nice photography is key

No matter your objective, you’re going to want to start circulating images of your products or services so people know what you’re selling. You can easily take some nice photos with your smartphone. A few quick tips:
– Gently wipe your camera lens down before shooting
– Use natural light when possible
– Shoot vertically, so your images are tall and take up as much of the social media feed as they can when someone is scrolling

4. Use videos

Social media algorithms love video. If you’re not using videos, you could be missing out on reaching a lot of potential customers. When you hear the word ‘video’ too, it doesn’t always mean a polished video with filmed visuals and audio. It can be as simple as turning a still image into a .gif with some squiggly lines, or turning a few images into a slideshow. As long as you’re posting a handful of videos, you’re going to be getting a lot more eyeballs and brand awareness!

5. Use a high-quality logo and keep your logo consistent across platforms

This one is pretty short and sweet. Try use a high-quality logo on your social media channels, and make sure that it isn’t pixelated or being cut off. This is often what your potential customers are going to see first, so make sure it’s in tip-top shape!

6. Consider your branding

Reposting quotes or facts that might be relevant to your business are well and true, but what if you re-created that quote tile in your branding? This would help tie things together and give your channels a much more cohesive and professional look.

7. Quality over quantity, always

Social media is no longer in chronological order so the days of posting multiple times a day or once a day are no longer here. It’s better for you to post quality content that is going to give your audience something to grasp on to, vs a lot of posts that provide nothing tangible.

8. We’re living in a world of pay to play

Sadly, social media has become a place where it’s essential to pay to get your message out there. Even if you start building a strong follower base, the chances of those followers seeing your posts will only be 1 in 10, if you’re super lucky. Try setting up some ads with Facebook Business Manager, and the results will surprise you!

There you have it! Some easy tips you can take away to get your business up and running on social media.
